Founded over a box of Pop-Tarts® in 1995 by David Schwartz and Peter Vilim, Waterton has grown from very humble beginnings with one phone and two desks to the successful, nationally recognized real estate investment and management firm it is today. As Waterton has evolved and grown, one thing has remained constant, the drive to achieve results by exceeding expectations.

Waterton is committed to assisting in the development of our communities. We strongly believe that our associates are the community’s strongest asset and that by encouraging and developing opportunities for our team to use their talents through volunteering, the community will reap the rewards. Waterton participates in numerous community enrichment projects and supports several other national and world-wide volunteer, not-for-profit and charity based programs. Waterton believes innovation is an important way to ensure our organization and industry continue to evolve and promote new ways of thinking around encouraging, capturing, assessing and promoting ideas. To ensure there are dedicated resources around innovation, Waterton has formed an Innovation Council to focus on cultivating ideas from our associates.

In addition to our internal Innovation Council, Waterton has also invested in a seed-stage technology accelerator for startups in real estate called elmspring, located at 1871, Chicago’s entrepreneurial hub for digital startups. elmspring seeks investible real estate disruptors and other related technologies, while supporting startup clients with training, access to capital, dedicated administrative infrastructure, and mentor relationships. The elmspring accelerator provides an impressive group of entrepreneurs, executives, investors and marketers as mentors for seed-stage companies in order to grow and thrive in the trillion dollar real estate market. The real estate industry is ripe for changes and elmspring has aligned itself with top industry and digital strategists to deliver revolutionary real estate innovations. Waterton is proud to be strategically partnered with such a forward thinking organization and is currently working to pilot several innovative ideas that have come from elmspring.
